The Red Pyramid By Rick Riordan

I do not recommend this book
The entirety of this is just completely disappointing. This is why I didn't want to read the Kane Chronicles or the Heroes of Olympus because I was afraid they would suck and I would be sad. Well, the Kane Chronicles suck and I am sad. After being such a huge fan of Percy Jackson knowing that this book is written by the same author just makes me want to curl up in a ball and cry.

It's bad. It's really really bad. The only good thing about this book is that it's told by two characters, and I've always kind of liked multiple character narration. Sadie and Carter are brother and sister. After their mom dies Sadie has to live with her grandparents in England while Carter travels the world with his father, who studies Egyptology. Sadie (I hate this name. I hate this name. I hate this name. It is my dogs name. It is not a human name. Sorry if your name is Sadie but I just cant) only gets to see her father and brother like once a year. Now this is where the plot takes a nose dive. I'll give you the basic run down: Oh no dad tried to summon a god and now he's gone. Oh no we have to live with his uncle who also goes missing. Oh no there is a guy named Set who wants to kill everybody. Oh no we are magicians who have stupid powers. Oh no the other magicians want us dead even though we are like twelve and fourteen and we didn't do anything. Are you seeing the badness?

I am really disappointed with this book.

I give this book one star

Demon Eyes by Scott Tracey

I recommend this book
Where do I even begin with a book like this. Scott Tracey has managed to do what so little can: Create a sequel that's better than the first book.

Remember when I said I loved Trey? I do not love him anymore. This book is amazing. Young girls are disappearing in Belle Dam, and for some reason Braden thinks it's his job to save them. The demon Lucien is back, big surprise (sarcasm). Trey and Braden have this back and forth thing going, and I really liked it. One second Trey loves him, the next he doesn't. I find myself beginning to ship Drew and Braden, which is probably never going to happen.

The book is fast paced and keeps the reader wanting more. If you haven't picked up this series yet I urge you to do so. The only main criticism I have is that all the characters seem to have the same personality, but I can forgive it because I like the personality they have. The book actually made me laugh, like, out loud. It is a must read.

I give this book five stars

The Science Of Reading

Hey guys! I really need to start reading that book in my room because I need to post more. So this may sound odd but I have a favor to ask of you. What a lot of people don't know is that I go to a technical high school and my shop is environmental science. Recently we had to do a science fair project but nobody did it, so now we have to do a second one. This time we got to do it on whatever subject we wanted. So here's mine: Is there a correlation between the genre of books people read and their IQ level? Who wants to be part of my project? If you're interested in being a test subject (all you have to do is take an IQ test, everything is anonymous) then please email me at: spidermanlover@rocketmail.com. Thanks for your help. (and no you do not get paid)

Witch Eyes by Scott Tracey

I recommend this book
Oh my god. This book. At first I did not like the beginning, but the deeper into the book you go the better it gets. Meet Braden, a gay witch. And that really bothers me. Not that he's gay, that's pretty awesome. My biggest problem with the entire book as that Braden is always referring to himself as a witch. Last time I checked male witches are wizards. It literally drove me insane the whole book. However, that's really the only problem that I've come across while reading this.

One thing I love about this book is that Braden is not your stereotypical flamboyant gay guy. All the characters are really well developed.
I absolutely love Trey, Bradens love interest. If Trey was a real person he would be one of those guys that I instantly fall for. I love him. I hate him. I want to hug him. I want to kill him. Yup, he's a good character. Not to mention, the plot is actually good, and the writing style is one I can actually stand.

So what is the plot? It goes a little something like this: Braden is a witch, we already covered that, he lives with his uncle, he runs away to protect him. He finds himself in the middle of two very powerful magical families fighting for, uh, well, him. Did I mention the forbidden love? Those are always fun. So yeah you need to read this. There is one part that made me so overwhelmed I just had to put it down for a few minutes to catch my breath. Granted I should have seen it coming. There were a lot of things I should have seen coming that I didn't. This book is just so good. Why are you not reading it yet?

I give this book four stars

Not A Review: Mockingjay is NOT a bad book!

So I just finished re-reading Mockingjay for the ninth time (not even joking, it's really like the ninth time). And I just want to say: Mockingjay is not a bad book. No, it's not the best in the trilogy, and it's not the most amazing heart stopping book ever. But it's still good. I feel it's one of those books you have to read at least two or three times to really appreciate it. Mockingjay has it's moments of pure brilliance. If you don't like Mockingjay I would seriously consider re-reading it. I didn't really like it the first time I read it either, I don't think anybody really does. But after taking a second look at it I changed my mind. It's not a bad book. It's really not.

Series For March?

The votes are in! The series I will focus in on in March will be Witch Eyes by Scott Tracey. Which is probably a good thing because I already bought and started reading the first book. Thanks to all who have voted. I will put a poll up for April. Feel free to post a comment if you have a book you want me to review.

Warriors: Rising Storm by Erin Hunter

I recommend this book
I feel like this book wasn't as good as the first three, but was still pretty good. One of my favorite cats died and that was just really tragic. I wanted to cry. But I understand why it was done, to further the story. Goodbye cat I loved that I don't want to say the name of because I don't want to give it away. On a happier note: I am still a Sandstorm and Fireheart shipper. GRAYSTRIPE WHY. Sorry for my outburst. This book does have an end that, while completely expected, will still leave you with your heart pounding. Why are you not reading this book yet? Pick up this series. Totally worth the two hours you'll spend on each book.

I give this book three and half stars

Chase Tinker and the House of Magic by Malia Ann Haberman

Wow. This is one of those books you pick up and aren't really sure what to expect, but by the time you're done you are aching for the next one. The story is fast paced and gets better with every chapter.

This is, without a doubt, a book for middle grade students. However I still found myself really enjoying it. The writing is basic yet somehow very engaging. The book has a take on magic that I've never really seen done before, and I really liked it. I liked it so much that I decided that I was going to read it and completely forget I had school work to do.

What I most enjoyed about this book is the plot. Chase Tinker has the power to move things with his mind. Yes, I know there's a word for that but honestly it's one of the few words that I will never be able to spell. His younger brother Andy Tinker can freeze time. Benjamin Tinker (I'm in love with everybody named Ben), the boys father, is missing and has been for a while now. When the boys grandfather comes to take them away to his magic house for the summer so they can master their powers things get a little crazy. And then you get hit in the face with plot twist after plot, especially at the end. I love all the characters in this, especially Persephone. Even though the characters are little kids, 10/12/13/14, I felt I could really connect with all of them.

Now lets talk about the ending. There are bad endings. There are good endings. Then there are endings like these that you do not expect, that are just so perfect you feel like your world is crashing down on you. The ending is not at all expected and honestly it's really kind of perfect. I would completely recommend this book, not only to middle grade kids but to high school students too. Guys, this one is a winner. Grab your kindle and start reading. This is one you don't want to miss.

Side note: I feel like this is the kind of book that would make a really really really good movie. Someone buy the rights. I demand it.

I give this book four and half stars

Beautiful Creatures Movie VS Book

Is today Thursday or Friday? No matter. I'm posting today anyways. At the very start of my blog I reviewed the Beautiful Creatures book. It's the only one in the series I actually cared for. So when I saw the trailer for the movie I knew I had to go see it to make sure they didn't ruin the only good book in that terrible series. Guess what guys. They did. Granted I'm very aware that sometimes things have to change, and sometimes things cant fit into the movie. But its like the only things they got right were the characters names. So I've decided to give you the pro's and con's of the movie.

I'll start with the con's because there was a shit ton of those.
Cons:

1) Bad cast
2) Bad acting
3) Only female casters carry the curse and while I cant remember if that's how it is in the book or not, I was pretty sure it was everyone who carried the curse. And I don't get why they would change that.
4) Larkin isn't a dark caster.
5) Ridley was barely in the movie
6) We were introduced to Sarafine way way way too early in the movie and it took much of the suspense out of it.
7) The "fight" at the end was way underplayed and nothing like in the book.
8) Amma is the librarian.
9) We never see Ethan's dad (which means we don't see Ridley trying to kill him which was one of my favorite parts)
10) No dance
11) Ridley doesn't make everyone go to Lena's birthday party. In fact, we don't really see her birthday party at all.
12) Everything was out of order.
13) Even if you haven't read the book the movie is still really really really really bad.
14) The pace was dreadfully slow.

Pros:

1) The ending. While the ending wasn't anything like the book I still really liked it. Lena casts a spell on Ethan to make him forget her, and it works. At the end Ethan leaves with Link for a college road trip. Ethan starts to remember Lena and he jumps out of the car and starts screaming her name. I thought this was kind of cute even though it was nothing like the book.
2) There is no 2. That's really how bad the movie was.

So if you haven't already wasted thirty dollars to see this terrible movie then I'm really jealous of you. Please save yourself the trouble and just read the book. It was so much better.

I give this movie no stars

Early apology

I'd like to apologize ahead of time to the people who actually read my blog (aka like two people). Today is the first day of February vacation for me. For some reason this seems to mean that my teachers think it was an okay idea to send me home with like five billion projects. Because of my homework load and the fact that I actually have plans for most of this vacation I will not be able to read and make a legit post until at least next Wednesday.

Fear not friends! I will be back! I will throw up some polls for you to fill out. And expect a post on Friday, but not one about a book. I haven't decided what it will be able yet but it will mostly just let you know that I haven't forgotten about my blog.

For all the kids who are on vacation this week: Be safe, have fun, and hopefully your teachers were not complete a-holes to you like mine.
