Series For May

The series that I will be making an attempt to read in may is Slated by Teri Terry. The reason why I say making an attempt is because the last string of books being as bad as they've been I'm worried about all future books.

Hush, Hush by Becca Fitzpatrick

I do not recommend this book

I have never read a book that has made me this uncomfortable in my entire life. While I'll admit that the point of art is to make one feel uncomfortable this was just ridiculous. I have a general rule, if I cant find something good to say about a book within the first 100 pages then I put it down for good. I can count on my hand the books that have made this list, and Hush, Hush was just added. With that said this review will only contain information from the first one hundred and seven pages.

Here's why this book made me uncomfortable. Sex. It's mentioned on basically every page. Even the first page is all about sex. The way it's written made me wonder if a horny teenager wrote this, but then I googled it and no it wasn't. Becca Fitzpatrick was, sadly, in her late twenties when this was published. And if this is the best you can do in your late twenties then you should seriously consider a career change. 

The characters? Nora, our main character, is so plain and boring. Patch, our bad boy love interest, makes me even more uncomfortable. The way he interacts with Nora is creepy. Vee, Nora's best friend, is so annoying it makes me crazy. I couldn't stand having a friend like her. Lastly we have Elliot. I didn't really get that far into him but he was the only one that didn't make me want to cry. 

Overall I'm really disappointed with this. I feel like I've been reading so many bad books lately and this one tops the list. So back to the school library it goes to never be thought of again.

City of Bones by Cassandra Clare

I  do not recommend this book

I should get a trophy for finishing this book. This is by far one of the worst books I have ever read. Honestly I'm offended that this trash was ever able to be published. Cassandra Clare manages to write a trashy paranormal novel with absolutely no unique features. This book heavily borrows from Harry Potter, Star Wars, and even Supernatural. Granted there really are no original ideas anymore because everything's already been done, but still. It was so in your face obvious. There were times when I would think to myself this is exactly like supernatural. With zero redeeming qualities I find myself wondering how on earth this book got to be so damn popular.

Lets talk about the characters. Starting with Clary. She's boring. I found her to be one of the most annoying female lead characters I've ever had the misfortune to read about. She's dumb. How about Jace? He's an assclown. It was clear Clare meant for him to be a heartthrob but he ended up just being jerk, and at the end he was just pathetic. Then we have Isabelle a sassy typical bad-ass that is found way too much in YA literature. Alec? He's also an assclown. The difference is he's a gay assclown. Which would normal cause me to automatically love the book, but somehow it didn't help change my opinion in the slightest bit. Simon is the only character I actually liked and even he had terrible flaws. My biggest problem is that they all have the same personality. Sassy, sarcastic, and rude.

Now let's talk about all the romance. Simon like Clary but Clary likes Jace but Alec likes Jace but wait does Simon like Isabelle and does she like him back but also does she like Jace? BREATHE. Notice how everyone and their mother likes Jace? I did. It was annoying. There was way too much romance and not enough action. Oh and lets not forget that Clary and Jace are brother and sister but don't know it until the end so then their romance is just fucking creepy. However I did just read online that they aren't really brother and sister which is good but it's still creepy because they think they're brother and sister and still like each other.

Well, was the plot any good? No! At first it looked like it was going to be good, but the further into the book I went the worse I felt about the plot. First it was like oh lets get Clary's mom back, and then it was like lets get this cup thing. Lets stop this guy Valentine. And then I got bored with it.

I think what bothered me most was the way it was written. I normally have negative feelings towards a book when it's written in third person. I much prefer first, especially for YA books. Then I found the descriptions to be lacking and there to be more dialogue than story. But what really made me angry was the fact that Clare repeats herself so much. I don't need to know the same piece of information thirty times, thanks.

Overall I am very disappointed with this book. For all the hype it gets I thought it would have been okay at least. I don't even think I can read the rest of the series. I promised Mary I would read the second one. But if that is as bad as this one then I'm done.

Apology

I'm sorry I haven't been posting a lot lately. My life has been crazy. Things happen. The reason it's taking me so long to read this book (City of Bones) is because it sucks. Like a lot. I find myself having to force myself to push through it. I will have it done by Sunday. That is a promise. Expect a very negative review. Sorry again for being a lazy assclown. Oh my god the computer didn't recognize assclown as a word. Quick. Everybody. Use assclown as much as you possibly can.

Series Of April

The series I will be reading and reviewing in April will be The Mortal Instruments. I cannot say I'm surprised. It's a really popular book, which is something that worries me. I never like reading books that get popular because 9 out of 10 times they're actually terrible and just overrated (like Twilight). I'm really hoping that's not the case for these books. I've already put a poll up for May so go ahead and pick a series. If there's a series or book that you want me to review you can post a comment and maybe I'll check it out.

The Red Pyramid By Rick Riordan

I do not recommend this book

The entirety of this is just completely disappointing. This is why I didn't want to read the Kane Chronicles or the Heroes of Olympus because I was afraid they would suck and I would be sad. Well, the Kane Chronicles suck and I am sad. After being such a huge fan of Percy Jackson knowing that this book is written by the same author just makes me want to curl up in a ball and cry.

It's bad. It's really really bad. The only good thing about this book is that it's told by two characters, and I've always kind of liked multiple character narration. Sadie and Carter are brother and sister. After their mom dies Sadie has to live with her grandparents in England while Carter travels the world with his father, who studies Egyptology. Sadie (I hate this name. I hate this name. I hate this name. It is my dogs name. It is not a human name. Sorry if your name is Sadie but I just cant) only gets to see her father and brother like once a year. Now this is where the plot takes a nose dive. I'll give you the basic run down: Oh no dad tried to summon a god and now he's gone. Oh no we have to live with his uncle who also goes missing. Oh no there is a guy named Set who wants to kill everybody. Oh no we are magicians who have stupid powers. Oh no the other magicians want us dead even though we are like twelve and fourteen and we didn't do anything. Are you seeing the badness?

I am really disappointed with this book.

Demon Eyes by Scott Tracey

I recommend this book

Where do I even begin with a book like this. Scott Tracey has managed to do what so little can: Create a sequel that's better than the first book.

 Remember when I said I loved Trey? I do not love him anymore. This book is amazing. Young girls are disappearing in Belle Dam, and for some reason Braden thinks it's his job to save them. The demon Lucien is back, big surprise (sarcasm). Trey and Braden have this back and forth thing going, and I really liked it. One second Trey loves him, the next he doesn't. I find myself beginning to ship Drew and Braden, which is probably never going to happen.

The book is fast paced and keeps the reader wanting more. If you haven't picked up this series yet I urge you to do so. The only main criticism I have is that all the characters seem to have the same personality, but I can forgive it because I like the personality they have. The book actually made me laugh, like, out loud. It is a must read.

I give this book five stars

The Science Of Reading

Hey guys! I really need to start reading that book in my room because I need to post more. So this may sound odd but I have a favor to ask of you. What a lot of people don't know is that I go to a technical high school and my shop is environmental science. Recently we had to do a science fair project but nobody did it, so now we have to do a second one. This time we got to do it on whatever subject we wanted. So here's mine: Is there a correlation between the genre of books people read and their IQ level? Who wants to be part of my project? Witch Eyes by Scott Tracey

I recommend this book

Oh my god. This book. At first I did not like the beginning, but the deeper into the book you go the better it gets. Meet Braden, a gay witch. And that really bothers me. Not that he's gay, that's pretty awesome. My biggest problem with the entire book as that Braden is always referring to himself as a witch. Last time I checked male witches are wizards. It literally drove me insane the whole book. However, that's really the only problem that I've come across while reading this.

One thing I love about this book is that Braden is not your stereotypical flamboyant gay guy. All the characters are really well developed.
I absolutely love Trey, Bradens love interest. If Trey was a real person he would be one of those guys that I instantly fall for. I love him. I hate him. I want to hug him. I want to kill him. Yup, he's a good character. Not to mention, the plot is actually good, and the writing style is one I can actually stand.

So what is the plot? It goes a little something like this: Braden is a witch, we already covered that, he lives with his uncle, he runs away to protect him. He finds himself in the middle of two very powerful magical families fighting for, uh, well, him. Did I mention the forbidden love? Those are always fun. So yeah you need to read this. There is one part that made me so overwhelmed I just had to put it down for a few minutes to catch my breath. Granted I should have seen it coming. There were a lot of things I should have seen coming that I didn't. This book is just so good. Why are you not reading it yet?

I give this book four stars

Not A Review: Mockingjay is NOT a bad book!

So I just finished re-reading Mockingjay for the ninth time (not even joking, it's really like the ninth time). And I just want to say: Mockingjay is not a bad book. No, it's not the best in the trilogy, and it's not the most amazing heart stopping book ever. But it's still good. I feel it's one of those books you have to read at least two or three times to really appreciate it. Mockingjay has it's moments of pure brilliance. If you don't like Mockingjay I would seriously consider re-reading it. I didn't really like it the first time I read it either, I don't think anybody really does. But after taking a second look at it I changed my mind. It's not a bad book. It's really not.
