Why the Catching Fire Movie Wasn't Any Better the Second Time Around

Well it's official, I am one of those crazy people that didn't absolutely love the Catching Fire movie. Again, I like it, I just don't think it lived up to the hype. Usually when I see movies twice I like them better the second time. Iron Man 3, Jack and Jill, Thor: The Dark World (which was already good enough the first time), just to name a few off the top of my head. Unfortunately, I think seeing Catching Fire a second time hurt my opinion more.

I think what did it was knowing how the action was going to look the second time. My friend Sydney went to see it with me this time, it was also her second time seeing it (she's lame so she didn't read the books). She said that when the scene with the lightning tree was going on and Katniss shot the arrow she had looked over to her friend she saw it the first time with and said, "Oh my god, that was so bad ass." This time she felt like it was just "kinda cool". I think the movie had the same effect on me. Except when I read it I thought bad ass, when I saw it the first time I thought cool, and then the second time it was good enough.

And then I realized the suspense was the thing that was missing. During the first movie I was on the edge of my seat, despite knowing what was going to happen. With this movie I didn't feel that. So I think that's what it was missing.

But, like I said in the first review, it was still a totally awesome movie.
